M.S.A.A. pt. 70

"...Finally, I'm back to normal. My memories are all straightened out, my powers are back to normal, and I'm pretty sure that life will go back to normal, at least, for a little while. God, hopefully this time I won't have to worry about those stupid Bijuu for a while, I really don't want to go through that again. I felt...empty, without emotion for half of the time. I couldn't remember anything, even my best friend. I couldn't remember Cree, Bianca, Kayla, Aneko, Virginia...Wait a minute...I've been here for a long time...which means...OH CRAP! I've been unconscious in the other world for like, DAYS now! Crap, crap, crap! I need to get home, NOW!! I hope Mom and Dad haven't had panic attacks yet! Tyler and Abigail must be freaking out too! To Terre Haute I go!...."

SOUL SOCIETY
Mariya's Perspective
...I've taken care...of it....Mariya...
"Mmn...hmm?" she breaths, waking up.
She yawns, stretching out under the covers, blinking as light enters her eyes.
"Man...that was a good dream..." she trails, before she groans, "And I lost it, damn it."
"Wow, haven't even been up for 20 seconds and you're already cussing."
Her eyes widen, and she sits up quickly, head butting something. And hard.
"Ack!" she says, falling back on the pillow, clutching her forehead.
"Damn it Yattamori..." a familiar voice trails, "You got me right in the nose."
She blinks, this time sitting up slowly, keeping her head tilted down as she looks over to see who she thought it was in the first place.
Toshiro, holding his nose down.
"Oh crap, Toshiro, are you alright?!" Mariya asks, leaning over.
"Y-Yeah, but that hurt. You really are hard-headed." he comments as he looks up at her, still holding his nose.
"Uh, Toshiro, move your hand." she says.
He does as told, to reveal a small nose bleed.
"Oh, I'm so sorry!" she says.
"Yattamori, it's nothing-" he starts.
He stops as she puts her hand to his face, the familiar glow appearing in front of his face.
Before a minute passes, she grins, happy to see the blood gone.
"There, all better." she says with a giggle.
"Yattamori, you're gonna use up more of your power." Toshiro replies.
She blinks.
"Huh? How?" she asks.
"Since you didn't stick to the 10 day deal with your zanpakuto, you-" Toshiro starts.
"Oh yeah, that...Yeah, you don't have to worry about that. At least not anymore." she interrupts.
"How come?"
"Well...my powers are back to normal."
He blinks.
"Really? How'd that happen?" he asks.
"You ask too many questions...Can't you just take my word for it? Like how you took my word for being the real Yattamori, for taking the name Tomas when we're in the other world-"
"W-Whoa, whoa, wait a minute." Toshiro interrupts.
"What?"
He doesn't reply for a moment.
"Tomas...the other world..." he trails, before his eyes widen, looking up at her.
She stares at him for a moment, before she smiles.
"You really are an idiot...Toshiro, did you really think I wouldn't come back?" she asks, chuckling.
He sits still for only a moment, before he stands, throwing his arms around her.
She blushes in surprise, not expecting him to hug her.
"T-Toshiro!" she stutters, trying to hide her embarrassment.
"Glad to have the real you back...Mariya..." he trails.
For a minute, she just sits there, allowing him to hold her, but she chuckles, wrapping her arms around him.
"Yeah...it's good to be back." she replies.
He grins, before pulling away, chuckling now himself.
"So, when did it happen?" he asks.
"...When you called my name." she answers.
"Huh?"
"My last name....Yattamori....it was the key, to unlocking my memories." she answers.
His eyes widen, before he looks away.
Toshiro thinks over it, before he stands, taking her by surprise.
"Toshiro?" she asks.
He laughs.
"So, this whole time, the one thing that could of-of fixed everything, was your last name." he says, his tone changed.
She blinks.
"They knew that with your memories gone I'd just call you Mariya...so I wouldn't confuse you." he whispers a bit, "It was so simple, I'm the only one that calls you Yattamori, not even Rangiku calls you that anymore-"
"Toshiro-"
"God DAMMIT!" Toshiro snaps.
Without warning, he throws his arm around, hitting a vase filled with flowers, the ceramic container slamming against the opposite wall with a loud crash, causing her to yelp in surprise.
"Why didn't I see it?! I feel like such an fool!" Toshiro yells, "It was right in front of my face!"
"Toshiro, really, it's ok-" she starts.
"-No it's NOT! Because of my stupidity....because of my oblivious actions..." he trails, looking back at her, before looking back at the wall, running his hand through his spiked hair, "Because I couldn't see the obvious...I just caused more problems...for you...."
She looks over the covers for a moment, before moving them away, sitting sideways on the bed, before standing, happy to find she's balanced, meaning she not must of been unconscious for too long.
"I'm such an idiot..." he trails on.
Mariya turns towards him, and walks over.
"It was so-" he starts.
"-WILL YOU JUST BE QUIET?!" she snaps.
His eyes widen, turning to face her.
"Yatta-" he starts.
"Will you stop saying shit like that?!" she yells, "Remember that you aren't that only one that didn't think of that! Aneko didn't, Cree and the others didn't, no one did! So stop it! This is absolutely ridiculous."
Mariya grunts, turning away, feeling her hair hit her back, apparently down, but kept together with her ribbon tied near the end of her locks.
"Mariya-" he begins.
"Toshiro." she interrupts, "You know...that you don't have blame yourself for everything, right?"
He blinks.
Her expression becomes more content, and she turns back towards him, and sighs.
"You can't...blame yourself for everything that happens to people, especially me." she says, "I can protect myself, I can hurt myself, it's just natural. We're Soul Reapers. We are assigned to protect...with our lives Toshiro. You and I have known that since day one, since we went to the academy."
For a moment, he just stands there, before he sighs.
"When you stop getting into as much trouble as you do, I'll stop."
She grunts.
"Why does this always come back to me?! Why Toshiro?!" Mariya asks, "Anytime something bad happens, it always comes back to somehow involve me! Tell me that!"
He doesn't respond, looking down at the ground.
"Toshiro..." she trails.
Without warning, the door opens quickly, catching their attention.
"H-Hey, what happened?!" Momo asks, her expression worried.
"Momo..." Mariya trails.
"I heard a crashing noise-" Momo starts.
Suddenly, Mariya runs at and hugs Momo, taking her by surprise.
"Momo!!" Mariya yells, holding her tight.
"M-M-Mari!" Momo yells.
"Man, it's good to see you and actually know who you are." Mariya says with a chuckle.
Momo's eyes widen in surprise, and she pulls Mariya back a bit to look her in the eye.
"Mari...you..." she trails.
Mariya smiles.
"I'm back!" Mariya says.
Momo tears up, and pulls Mariya into an even tighter hug.
"Mari! I'm so glad you're ok!" Momo says, a few tears running down her cheeks.
Mariya laughs, hugging her back until she lets go, smiling still as she whips away the tears still falling from Momo's eyes.
"Hey, don't cry, you're supposed to be happy!" Mariya replies.
"Is Mariya awake?"
They all look up to see Rangiku, Aneko, and Kayla in the doorway.
"Hey guys!" Mariya says.
"Mariya!" Kayla yells, attacking Mariya with another hug.
"Hey Kayla, glad to see your injuries are all healed." Mariya replies.
"Captain, you seem to be better." Aneko says.
"Neko, what part of call me 'Mariya or Yattamori', do you still not understand?" Mariya says.
The trio blinks, before Rangiku gasps.
"Your memories are back!" they yell at once, Kayla still holding her tight as now Rangiku joins the hug, cutting off Mariya's air supply for a few moments at a time.
"H-Hey, Rangiku, pull off a bit." Toshiro says.
"Oh my god! What happened?!" Kayla yells.
Everyone looks over to see the shattered vase, smashed into pieces, the water still dripping from the wall as the flowers are strewn over the floor.
"Wow, looks like someone got mad..." Rangiku trails, before looking over at Toshiro.
He blinks.
"What?" he asks.
"Did you do that?" Kayla asks.
He doesn't answer for a moment.
"Yes, I did, so?" he replies.
"Why?" Aneko asks.
"Captain Hitsugaya."
They all turn to see a messenger.
"Yes?" Toshiro asks.
"The Head Captain would like to speak with you in private." the messenger responds.
Mariya's and the others look in surprise.
"Grandpa Yama? What does he want?" Mariya asks, stepping towards Toshiro.
"I don't know, but I got to go." Toshiro replies, "I'll see later, alright?"
"Fine." Mariya replies.
Toshiro turns back, and walks out of the room, the messenger closing the door before following after him.
Mariya grunts, turning back towards the bed.
"Ugh, why does he have to be so irritating?!" Mariya yells.
"Can you tell use what happened?" Aneko asks.
She sighs, and looks back at them.
"He got mad, because he didn't realize what the key to unlocking my memories was." she says.
Kayla blinks.
"The key to your memories?"
Mariya nods.
"And that would be?" Rangiku asks.
"....My last name." she trails.
Their eyes widen.
"YOUR LAST NAME?! THAT'S IT?!" the yell at once.
"Yes! Yattamori was the key. They knew that you guys wouldn't call me that so to not confuse me, so they hid it in plain sight." Mariya responds, slightly irritated by their reaction.
They look at one another.
"Wow, it was so obvious...I bet he got really irritated...." Aneko trails.
"Yeah, I mean, he's currently the only one that calls you Yattamori, except for the Head Captain, but you never saw him during the memory cut off." Rangiku replies, "It was his decision that put you in such a serious dilemma. He must feel awful."
Her eyes widen.
...I didn't think about it...that way....
A feeling of guilt comes over her, and she turns away.
"Guys, could you leave? I want to get dressed." she says, her tone softer now.
Aneko catches the change.
"Alright, we'll go for now." Aneko says, "Come one guys, let's go."
"Let's go Kayla." Rangiku says as she opens the door.
Kayla nods, and files out, followed by Aneko, who looks back to see Mariya still standing, facing the other way.
"Captain....I'll stay nearby..." Aneko trails.
Mariya doesn't respond for a moment.
"...Thanks...Neko." Mariya answers, trailing a bit herself.
Aneko nods, and with that, she shuts the door, leaving Mariya alone.
Sensing that everyone is gone, Mariya sighs, and turns back around, looking around.
"Man...when did everything...become so...real?" she whispers, walking towards the stack of her things.
She takes hold of her pendant, and grasps it tight, running her other hand through her hair.
She looks over her usual garb, before she notices something different.
Picking up her uniform, her haori sticks out.
She pulls it out, holding it up in front of her. She grins.
"Finally, you guys gave me a plain white haori, maybe now I won't stick out like such a sore thumb anymore." she comments.
It's pretty much the same as her usual haori, but it's no longer that stupid light pink.
"Ugh, I hated that thing." she groans as she slips on the top of her kimono.
Within minutes, she's all dressed, putting on her new haori with a smile. She looks over, to see a wall mirror she hasn't noticed before now.
She blinks, looking at herself in the mirror.
Though it's a small change, she feels different as she steps closer.
Her hair is still down, maybe that's why?
She comes to stand right in front of the mirror, pressing her hand against the side of the reflective surface.
...Leave it all...to me....
Her eyes widen as she hears the voice pass through her mind from before, a spark of blue flashing past her eyes.
She blinks, finding that her eyes are back to normal.
"What...the...?" she trails.
She picks at her mind, trying to make sense of what just happened.
Then, another thought passes through her mind.
...Wait...how did I win...against Nekomata?...Did I kill her...
She gasps.
...What did I do?!...I-I can't remember!....
Returning from her thoughts she looks back at herself, seeing what she feels in her own eyes.
Confusion...
Fright.
She shakes her head.
"Damn...this whole thing is screwing up my way of thinking." she comments.
She looks back up at herself, and sighs.
"What have I gotten myself into?" she asks herself, "I never thought that...being Yattamori...would be this difficult."
Her bangs fall back in front of her right eye.
She chuckles.
"No...I'm not Yattamori..." Mariya trails, pushing her bangs and putting them behind her ear, looking still at her reflection, "I'm just an idiot of a teenage girl...I'm Shecker..."
Suddenly, her eyes widen.
"Wait a minute, Shecker, Oh my GOD, I HAVEN'T BEEN HOME IN THREE WEEKS!!" she yells, doing the math in her head, "THAT'S SIX DAYS!! SHIT!"
Not even remembering to do her hair, she sprints out of the room, running down the hall, turning to find the exit.
She slams open the door, taking Aneko and Kayla by surprise.
She pants, looking around nervously as she spots Cree and Bianca, accompanied by Rikuto.
"Captain, what's wrong?!" Aneko asks.
"I HAVEN'T BEEN HOME IN SIX DAYS, THAT'S WHATS WRONG!" Mariya snaps, grabbing Kayla's wrist.
"O-Ow! Dude?!" Kayla yells.
"Bianca, Cree, your necklaces, NOW!" Mariya yells.
Stunned, they blink, before their necklaces begin to glow bright, Cree's triangle, Bianca's star, and Kayla's cross.
Mariya looks down to see the purple charm glowing too.
She turns to see Aneko and Rangiku staring at them.
"Tell Toshiro we left, and if he wants to come, just use his own." Mariya says.
"B-But Captain-" Aneko stutters.
"-See ya!" Mariya yells as light encases all of them, transporting them all....
Back to our world!
